Two Unmissable Exhibitions at An Chéad Tine for Kilkenny Arts Festival & Alternative Kilkenny Arts 2025

Thank you to all who joined us for the opening of Teach Allais at An Chéad Tine. We’re deeply grateful to Regina Fitzpatrick for her opening words, and to Darren Francis Caffrey for a powerful performance. This group exhibition explores artists’ responses to Ireland’s ancient sweathouses – spaces of fire, ritual and renewal. Runs ’til 2nd August, Tues–Sat, 11am–5pm, on the mezzanine of Dunnes, Kieran St, Kilkenny.

Curator Mary Doyle Burke was recently in conversation in the gallery with our exhibiting artist, Graham Carew, to delve into the depths of his extraordinary body of work, Dueling With Ghosts.

An Chéad Tine Art Gallery invites artists to submit proposals for our Summer exhibition titled “Teach Allais” – Irish Sweathouses. These ancient structures, known as teach allais in the Irish language, meaning "house of sweat," are the traditional saunas of Ireland.

Dueling with Ghosts, a solo exhibition by Graham Carew at An Chéad Tíne Art Gallery, explores memory, solitude, and the healing power of art.

Kilkenny Portrait Show 2025 is open for entries! Selected by Bernadette Kiely, this juried exhibition celebrates portraiture in Ireland.
